Hola, SHPE Familia! My name is Salena Torres. I am Mexican-American and extremely proud to be a part of of this organization. I am a first-generation college graduate and SHPE has been an influential organization in my life since I was a High School student. SHPE sponsored my first college visit they gave me examples of what "Latino engineers look like" and hope that I can also get my engineering degree. Flash forward 12 years later, I received my Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and my Masters in Engineering Management. I am now a Supervisor over a team of analysts at HMS, which is a healthcare data-analytics company. I'm responsible for the financial health of two of the largest products in our Coordination of Benefits line. I also serve as the HMS Champion for Girlstart, an organization that introduces and grows the interest of middle-school aged girls in STEM. I hope to give back into SHPE, as much or more into the organization that has given me so much.
Daniela Delgado
Picture
My name is Daniela Delgado. I am originally from Colombia, but moved to the states when I was 13. Since then, I attended High School and College in Tampa, Florida, where I graduated as a Chemical Engineer from the University of South Florida (May 2019). Throughout my undergrad, I was heavily involved with SHPE as a chapter and regional leader. During this time SHPE helped me grow personally and professionally, giving me both support systems and everlasting friendships. After graduating, I moved to Dallas to work as a process engineer for Raytheon Technologies. As expected, I found support from the DFW SHPE familia, which made my transition to Dallas much easier. I then joined the GLEDA program, where I have been a member of the fundraising committee. GLEDA has guided me through my first year as an engineer. SHPE has continuously made an impact on my life, and as I did in my undergrad, I would like give back to my new familia and community.
