This event, organized by the SHPE Foundation, is designed to promote knowledge, awareness, interest, and motivation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and college education. Noche de Ciencias will consist of the following: - Hands on STEM activities for K-12 students - College information for students and parents - Bilingual Workshops for parents - Free Food! The second quarterly GLEDA professional development workshop was held January 12th at Pape-Dawson engineers in Plano. The presentations covered were “Managing Styles” presented by Adriana Ocampo, Vice Chair of the SHPE Board of Directors, “SMART Goals” presented by Brianne Martin, Vice President of the SHPE DFW Chapter and “Personal Finance” presented by Andrea Shinn, President of the SHPE DFW Chapter. Kendrick Lange, a representative of the Trinity Industries chapter of Toastmasters came and presented the group with an overview of the organization and some activities. Total attendance for this event was 25.
February is the month of Engineers Week is the only event of its kind, is a time to highlight engineers, our work, and contribution to the amazing world we live in today.

To celebrate Engineers Week a few weeks early, SHPE DFW is excited to announce we'll be participating in the upcoming Dallas ISD STEM Expo - the largest STEM Expo in Texas. For every meal that is purchased, RJ's will share a portion of the profits with our chapter to raise funds for STEM scholarships. Come out for a night of good food and networking! SHPE’s DFW General Meeting/Holiday Posada took place on Saturday, December 15th , at the club house of Northend Apartments in Dallas. It was a joyous afternoon filled with friendship, laughter, and the holiday spirit. President Andrea Shinn, opened up the event with a detailed overview of the chapter and the highlights accomplished by the team year-to-date followed by the fun holiday posada potluck. We enjoyed a variety of delicious cultural food including empanadas from Colombia, Mexican tamales, American ham and tasty festive drinks like coquito, horchata, margaritas, and hot chocolate. Everyone had a great time catching up and meeting new people. Playing white elephant gift exchange was fun and the traditional ugly sweater contest was a hit!
