SHPE DFW is celebrating April 8th - April14th as our GLEDA Mentorship week. Mark this week on your calendars and make sure to setup a meeting/phone call with your mentor/mentee. This is the last official ApprenticeSHPE event of this year’s GLEDA Program.
The SHPE DFW Scholarship application window is now open for 2019-2020 Academic Year! All details and instructions can be found within the PDF application. Electronic submissions must be timestamped no later than 11:59pm CT on April 30, 2019 or alternatively to mail in your application, please download the PDF and ensure it is postmarked by April 30, 2019. Winners will be recognized at the SHPE DFW Annual Awards Gala on May 20th being held at the Abacus Restaurant in Knox-Henderson District of Dallas. Thousands of students, parents, and teachers got together at the Dallas ISD STEM Expo 2018- 2019, the biggest STEM expo in Texas. Our wonderful SHPE volunteers hosted three activities to introduce students to the fields of Civil, Electrical, and Chemical engineering! We had a blast! Thanks to everyone who volunteered! HDR lead a Resume Workshop accompanied with Mock Interviews February 4th at the SMU chapter for all SHPE DFW local chapters. Several HDR professionals presented, provided their own insights, career paths, advice, and one-on-one mentorship to professionals and students who attended the event. SHPE familia thoroughly enjoyed the event and left with more confidence in their interviewing skills and ability to land a job. We look forward to future events with our HDR familia with a civil engineering focus and possible site visit in the near future. This event consisted of mentors and experienced professionals sharing their personal and professional experiences and lessons on how to be a successful leader in your careers. The mentor panel consisted of Manolo Rios, Gabino Hernandez, Andrea Shinn, Fernando Ceballos and Brianne Martin.
SHPE stages regional leadership development conferences [RLDCs] on a yearly basis for the leadership of the SHPE student chapters to improve their organizational, managerial, and technical skills. They take place in all of the seven SHPE regions. For Region 5, which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama will be hosted in San Antonio, Texas March 21 – 24, 2019.
