SHPE DFW SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Dear SHPE DFW Scholarship Applicant:

On behalf of the Dallas-Fort Worth Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), we would like to applaud your efforts to pursue a college education. Your interest in applying for this scholarship shows that you have decided to positively affect your future through higher education.


Keep in mind that most scholarship programs, including ours, are competitive processes. To ensure that your application receives full consideration, we suggest you carefully read the eligibility requirements and have a colleague proofread your work.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Hispanic high school senior or college student
  • High school seniors must have a GPA of 3.0 
  • College students must have a GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
  • Be a full-time college student or a high school student currently admitted and fully committed to attending a DFW College or University during 2020-2021 academic year
  • ​Pursuing or planning to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM)
  • Academic record
  • Community service
  • Essay response
  • ​Financial need

    A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed an associate's or bachelor's degree. This means that you and/or your siblings are the first in your family to attend a two or four-year college/university to attain an associate's or bachelor's degree.

    SHORT ESSAY
    Submit one essay that adequately addresses the two topics listed below.
    The essay should be 500 words or less. Please double space your essay and upload it in Word format.

    1. Explain the importance of being Hispanic student (in your major) in today's society
    2. Describe how you intend to use your degree to help the growing Hispanic population.
